Hunter-net.org is a website for the Imbued. Accessible through the dummy front-end anonymous-liberty.com, hunter-net is a server protected by the Messengers and includes a mailing list and a chat program. The header of the site includes two symbols in hunter code meaning "protected" and "hope".

History[]

The original site was created by Witness1, but was compromised. That site was abandoned and the current incarnation was established.  In 2000, the site was compromised a second time. These events are archived in /walkingdead/. Although some viewed this as an attack, some (including Witness1) believe it to have been guidance from the Messengers.

Joining[]

Before joining Hunter-Net the hunter had to find Anonymous-liberty.com. In some cases the Messengers themselves guided the hunter to the site, but mostly the hunter had to find it themselves. Traveller72 used his job as a crane parts salesman to travel the United States and tell other hunters about Hunter-Net.

Signing up for the site required a username, to which a unique number was appended. For example, the site's founder was Witness1. To memorialize the deceased, these id numbers are not recycled. Witness1 originally intended to do so, but SixofSwords29 convinced him not to.

Security[]

Hunter-Net's security was managed by Witness1 and Dole7. Although the two were the top of their fields, they both knew that there were monsters with greater skill. To protect the lives of the hunters, Witness1 instituted site-wide rules which apply to hunter-net, as well as the specific sub-lists:

  1. Post only minimal information about yourself.
  2. Do not abuse or threaten other hunters.
  3. Hunter-Net is only a tool.
  4. Reading doesn't make you an expert.

Rule 1 prevents hunters from disclosing personally identifiable information. It is intended to protect hunters from being identified online and risking their lives unecessarily. Rule 2 promotes civility and Witness1's dream of unity. The last two rules emphasize that the hunt is practical effort, and that experience and skill ultimately matter more than reading.

In addition to the Messengers' protection both Dole7 and Witness1 constantly upgrade the security software in place. Dole7 even kicked users off Vigil if they didn't install the security software he sent them.

Sub-Lists[]

As time went on and the Imbued began to further isolate and identify with various creed philosophies, sub-lists were created:

Martyrs, Hermits, and Waywards appear not to have their own lists.

Other Sections[]

In addition to the main-list and creed lists Hunter-net had several other sections:

  • An archive of the events that happened when hunter-net was breached for the second time. [1]
  • The Survival Guide.
  • A section that dealt with the Inquisition.
  • The Enemy, a section of information on the foes of the Imbued, compiled by Bookworm55.

/walkingdead/[]

Witness1 created the /walkingdead/ archives after hunter-net was compromised for a second time. Perhaps guided by the Messengers, the vampire Ichmail and ghost Carpenter169 provided intelligence on the Orphic Circle , walking dead, ghosts, the underworld, and more.

The archives contain several notable threads, such as Ichmail's intelligence on the Orphic Circle and Oracle171's subsequent investigation, Pilot56 's account of the invasion of New Dijon , Carpenter169's information on ghosts and the underworld, Shaka74's trip to zombie-infested Haiti , and Azrael256 's encounter with unknown entities in their local "ChinaTown".

The story of the site being compromised for the second time is also archived here, ending in Carpenter169's prophecy .
