Horizon Realm is a term used by mages to describe a pocket universe situated in a specific area of the Umbra known as the Horizon.[1][2]
Overview[]
Creating a Horizon Realm allows a mage to customize the nature of reality precisely to their needs and desires. The Consensus of a Horizon Realm, if there is one, can be wildly different to the one on Earth, allowing free use of (certain) magic without risk of Paradox. The standards for what magic is vulgar in a Horizon Realm and what is coincidental are set when the Realm is created.[3]
Horizon Realms require a connection to a Node on Earth to supply them with Quintessence and sustain their existence. They also usually have one or more portals to allow easy access from Earth, although these are normally heavily guarded.[3] The Avatar Storm cut off many of the existing Horizon Realms, destroying some completely and leaving others unmoored in the Horizon.[2][4] Those residents who were not killed faced disembodiment, transforming them into pure spirit.[5]
Post-Reckoning, travelers in the Umbra may still be able to find some old Horizon Realms, but such exploration is dangerous, and there is no guarantee of finding the same Realm twice.[2] A Euthanatos marabout in India controls "Ravana's Navel," an eye in the Avatar Storm that allowed them to safely cross the Gauntlet, but this is kept a closely guarded secret.[6]
