The Gargoyle found in the Asian Theatre was created by Maximillian Strauss at some point before the 1489 Montmartre Pact, but presumably remained in Strauss' service for many centuries to come.
Sometime in the recent nights -- possibly when Strauss moved into his Los Angeles chantry after Sebastian LaCroix claimed praxis -- the Gargoyle rebelled. He didn't move far, and claimed the abandoned Asian Theatre in Hollywood as his territory.
The Theatre was an important landmark to Baron Isaac Abrams, who decided he wanted the Gargoyle either removed, or converted to the Anarch cause.

Background Information[]
- The Gargoyle presumably picked the Theatre for aesthetic reasons: he took the form of a large ape wearing ancient Chinese armor.
- In a Beta demo[1], the Gargoyle had allied with the Sabbat, as implied by Venus Dare's computer. This change was likely just to demonstrate game features and not indicative of original game intent.
- It's not clear what variant of Gargoyle this specific individual belonged to, but he was probably a Sentinel, combining traits of the Nosferatu and Tzimisce.
- In the Plus version of the Unofficial Patch, if the PC convinces the Gargoyle to join the Anarch cause, and then later picks the Anarch ending, the Gargoyle will be seen keeping watch outside the Chateau Marmont.
