The Hermetic Order of the Rising Day was an occult fraternity founded in London, which claimed to possess the mystical secrets of the Rosicrucians. It initially attracted a number of occult scholars, including Benjamen Holmscroft, but most of them quickly left in frustration or disgust. The Order, they felt, had no genuine occult knowledge, nor an interest in acquiring any; it was merely a social club for people who wanted to dress funny and chant nonsense.
Holmscroft later founded the Arcanum, recruiting heavily from ex-HORD members. The later rise of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn dealt HORD its final blow, and it gradually faded to obscurity.
