A Haunt is a power granted to the Bound from Geist: The Sin-Eaters. Formed by the bond between the living human and the powerful geist inhabiting them, Haunts allow the Bound to use the powers of death and dictate how they may manipulate those powers.
There are twelve types of Haunts in all; the Haunt a Bound has access to is dictated by their Burden. In addition, they can be influenced or unlocked by Keys. Quite simply, while the Haunt tells how a Bound can use their powers, the Key dictates what will be affected by them. Haunts are always dictated by a Bound's Attributes and, once called upon and successfully activated, will last for an entire scene unless the Bound chooses otherwise. Most Haunts do not require much in the way of sacrifice from a Bound, perhaps a point of Plasm, but some of the most powerful and damaging skills will require much more to call upon, including Willpower.
The Haunts[]
- Boneyard: The Bound who call on Boneyard Haunts use their powers to affect the area around them, the can create classic haunting effects such as fog and chill spots or use the environment itself to attack a foe within.[1][2]
- Caul: Those who use the Caul Haunts can manipulate their very forms, changing their body in all manner of useful and terrifying ways.[3][4]
- Curse: The users of the Curse Haunts prefer subtlety rather than outright force, nudging the world around them to do their bidding.[5][6]
- Dirge: Dirge Haunts channel the many discordant voices of the Underworld, allowing them to speak with the voices of the dead.[7]
- Marionette: Bound who favor the Marionette Haunts wish to control everything around them, from the inanimate and unintelligent to the bodies and souls of people.[8][9]
- Oracle: The Bound of the Oracle Haunts are confronted with the visions of the future and insight into the natures of those around them.[11][12]
- Pit: The lost Haunt is also the most feared, allowing the Bound to torment others with the powers of the Underworld itself. It is split into The Void and Well in Second Edition.[13]
- Rage: Users of the Rage Haunts are the most direct of the Bound, using their abilities for an outright attack against those who stand in their way.[14][15]
- Shroud: The Bound who possesses the Shroud Haunts can call on their powers to defend and shield them from those who would do them harm.[16][17]
- Tomb: The powers of the Tomb allow the Bound to restore things to their former state by spinning plasm into them.[18]
- Void: Drawing on the entropic nature of the Great Below, this Haunt allows the Sin-Eater to wield anti-existence as a weapon.[19]
- Well: Derived from the memory-stripping powers of the Ocean of Fragments, the Well's powers allow their wielder to steal away and use the memories of a target.[20]
