Harold Naismith is a Klansman whose home is near a powerful locus.

Overview[]

This way has been good enough for a half-dozen of your kind before now, son. It’ll sure be good enough for you. Now stop kicking and it’ll all be over real quick.

A father of two daughters, Nellie and Bethany, Harold’s third daughter, Maryann, vanished years ago. Upon learning that she had been dating a black boy named Adam Jameson, Naismith immediately assumed him to be guilty of kidnapping her and gathered his fellow Klansmen to have the boy lynched. The true guilty party (incidentally, as white as Naismith himself) was discovered a month later alongside Maryann’s body.

In the following years, Naismith began to hear and see strange things around the tree from which Jameson was hanged. Rather than believing these things to be ghosts of lynching victims or messengers of the devil, he believes that the ghosts of his fellow Klansmen have gathered to enjoy the spectacle of hangings once more and will become angry with him should the spectacle not continue. As such, the man has eschewed even the hollow excuse of vengeance for his daughter and has turned to cold-blooded murder.

In truth, ghosts never enter into the matter. Spirits have gathered to the locus on Naismith’s property and have been tearing one another apart for Essence, causing the raucous noise that the Klansman hears.
