For the Golem in Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption, see Maqqabah the Golem.

Golems are large humanoid automatons created by sorcery, notorious for instability and the tendency to go berserk. The traditional idea of the golem originates from Jewish lore, where the golem was made of clay which had never been touched by the hand of man, but Greek and Arabic automata of bronze have been mentioned in mythology, and modern science is working on ambulatory robots to this day. In the Chronicles of Darkness (the "New World of Darkness"), golems are but one of several kinds of manufactured servitor created to serve sorcerers and mad scientists. See also "imbued," "gargoyle," "homunculus" and "voodoo zombie."

The Tammuz Lineage of Prometheans are also known as Golems, though they are reassembled corpses given life through alchemy using the medium of clay rather than being entirely constructed automata. Tammuz accounts of their history suggest they are responsible for inspiring several of the more famous Golem stories.
