The French Toreador is the ruling Kindred and Toreador force in France for many centuries. In the Dark Ages, they composed the Courts of Love under Salianna, the Matriarch of Paris. Most of the French Toreador come from the line of Queen Salianna and her sire Michael.

History[]

By the early 11th century, it is believed that it was during this period that the Toreador came to France in large numbers, most of them paying liege homage to Salianna, the kingdom's undisputed Toreador authority. It's hardly surprising, then, that the concepts of chivalry and courtly love emerge successively from this period onwards, both of which were largely driven by Eleanor d'Aquitaine and the work of Chrétien de Troyes in the mortal society of twelfth century. The creation of the Courts of Love Toreador balance of power and enabled the Clan of the Rose to gradually gain the upper hand over the Ventrue.

While the Toreador and their circumscribed Lasombra allies were thinking their grip on Frankish royalty, Alexander awakened from his lethargy, spurred on by a newcomer to the political chessboard: Countess Saviarre d'Auvergne. The iron fist of the mighty Ventrue is particularly evident in the reign of King of the Franks Henry I.

During the War of the Austrian Succession, the Prussian armies failed to seize Tremere Vienna due to the Toreador demands. This angered the Ventrue Prince Gustav Breidenstein, who sought to conquer Vienna.

Gustav was a ruthless ruler and just a few years after, he staked three French Toreador, forcing them to retaliate. The Toreador formal letters of outrage were returned to Paris, unopened or with vicious remarks about the Toreador ability to appreciate art written on them. Gustav's domain of Berlin and the Berlin Camarilla soon felt the full penalty for Gustav's pride and ego when Napoleon marched his French troops in 1806. The French Toreador ensured that Napoleon held the city for several years so they could plunder many of Berlin's artistic treasures. The Toreador of Paris accepted Gustav's many formal apologies as he sacrificed three of his own brood in front of an assembly of powerful Cainites.

The French Toreador under François Villon influenced the domain of Montreal in modern times.
