Drattosi are Banes that live in huge radioactive pits within the Umbra.

Overview[]

Drattosi are Banes of pollution, environmental despoilment, and natural ruin. Rare in times of Garou legend, they are terrifyingly common in the era of Apocalypse. Invariably toxic, Drattosi might appear as a sludgy oil slick on a beach, a festering heap of urban garbage in a decaying city, a streak of radioactive slag, or the like.

Like ant lions, they prey on all who fall into their traps. Their Umbral pits are always full of toxic fumes and blazing red pyres. The Drattosi are rarely seen, only crawling from their lairs to feed.

The Drattosi are intelligent predators. They can communicate intelligibly with Garou and spirits, but rarely bother to do so. They are often very knowledgeable about all goings-on within the area, even in the physical world corresponding to their Penumbral lair - however, it is quite difficult to wring such information out of them.

Image[]

The Drattosi slightly resemble crabs, but they are gigantic. They have reddish-black carapaces, covered in thorny protrusions, all over their bodies. The have multiple limbs with sharp piercers which they use to skewer their prey. Their bodies often emit steam. In the physical world, Drattosi manifest as heaps of animate rubbish, often incorporating organic matter. The heaps may manifest claws or long, ropy arms with which to drag nearby prey — and more refuse — into their mass to contaminate and decompose.

Stats[]

First Edition[]

Rage 7, Willpower 5, Gnosis 8, Power 30 + whatever it has absorbed lately
Charms: Airt Sense, Illusory Desire (The Drattosi must make a Gnosis roll versus its target's Willpower to pluck an image from the victim's mind, Two Power points must then be spent to create the illusion. This power may be used on more than one victim, but only one victim's mind can be read at a time.), Consume Essence (This Charm allows the Drattosi to eat another spirit and absorb its Power or Gnosis into itself. A spirit consumed in this manner will not reform at normal speed. The Drattosi transfers whatever Power or Gnosis the spirit prey possessed into Power for itself. It accomplishes this by attacking with its Rage rating; one point is sucked per success. The stolen Power fades at a rate of five points per 24-hour period if it is not used up beforehand.)

Second Edition[]

Rage 7, Gnosis 8, Willpower 5, Power 30 + whatever it has absorbed lately
Charms: Airt Sense, *Consume Essence, *Illusory Desire

  • Consume Essence - This Charm allows the Drattosi to eat another spirit and take its own Power into itself. A spirit consumed in this manner will not Reform. The Drattosi attacks with Rage as usual, but drains one Power point into itself per success. Surplus Power fades at a rate of five points every 24 hours if not spent beforehand. The Drattosi can even use this Charm to eat spirit or Garou's Gnosis, although it requires two successes to drain away a point of Gnosis.
  • Illusory Desire - The Drattosi must make a resisted Gnosis versus Willpower roll to pluck out n image from a potential victim's mind, then spend two Power to create the illusion. This power may be used on more than one victim, but only one victim's mind can be read at a time.

Fifth Edition[]

  • Power: 4–10
  • Exceptional Dice Pools: Brawl +4, Intimidation +4
  • Armored Shell: The thick shell of a Drattosi in its Umbral form reduces any physical damage taken by 3 before any halving.
  • Giant Pincer Claws: The claws do +4 damage (Aggravated to mortals, Superficial to Garou and similarly resilient beings).
