Direccion de Atención a Amenazas Extranormales

The Direccion de Atención a Amenazas Extranormales (Extranormal Threat Attention Directorate in English), or DAAE for short, is a Hunter org founded and funded by the Mexican government.

Overview

Much like many government-based orgs, the DAAE is only a branch of Mexico’s wider counterespionage center, the Centro Nacional de Inteligencia. Given that the CNI in its modern iteration was only founded in 2018, it is possible that the DAAE is itself a very new organization.

Political pressures between the United States and Mexico has prevented the DAAE from formally joining the Coalition, but it remains a close associate in terms of cross-border operations, frequently attempting to curry favor with FIRSTLIGHT and cooperating with the Special Affairs Division whenever an Unusual Threat concerns both agencies.

Operation

The DAAE has a history of dealing with Unusual Threats with business in human trafficking and smuggling operations across the border to the United States, hence its frequent collaboration with the Special Affairs Division. This means that although they may prioritize blankbodies over other forms of the supernatural, as with the rest of the Coalition, they are no strangers to encountering more esoteric Unusual Threats that happen to operate in similar manners.

Efraín Barrera has been a major target of acquisition for the DAAE for years, both due to the magnitude of his human trafficking ring and the esotericness of his abilities compared to other blankbodies. Their primary reason for wanting him alive is to determine whether or not others of his kind exist, though they also believe that providing evidence of their triumph over an Unusual Threat of his caliber will raise their standing with FIRSTLIGHT.

Recently, a spree of mutated corpses from vanished Mexican citizens have begun appearing in American cities, with the resultant suspicions of an anomalous serial killer prompting the Special Affairs Division to begin a tense collaboration with the DAAE. Their joint investigation has turned up little besides the use of a strange dimension through which victims are transported, and no culprits have yet been found.
