Dark Destiny III: Children of Dracula is a fiction anthology for the World of Darkness.

Summary[]

From the back of the book:

From the beginnings of time, evil has pervaded all human existence. In fact and fable, incarnations of ultimate darkness have sought to terrify us through the grotesque manifestations they bring - or cause. Historians trace the suffering and indignation of all humankind and have documented these frailties in scripture, print and film. Many souls have found their place in this registry of the damned, but only one has embraced the world of darkness with an existence so profane that none dare share his name. He is Vlad Tepes - Dracula.
Journey with our maestros of the macabre to meet the Masters of the night. Through Dracula, and the Kindred which he has begotten, you will experience the atrocities committed in Gomorrah that even the Bible fails to describe, learn who was actually responsible for Bram Stoker's novel, and attend a British "Blacke's 7" convention. You'll come to know the power of the Camarilla and the Sabbat, feel the control of the Inconnu, and taste the anxiety and fear brought on by the Antediluvians.
DARK DESTINY III: CHILDREN OF DRACULA features original fiction by award-winning authors David Bischoff, Robert J. Sawyer, Susan Shwartz, John Mason Skipp, S.P. Somtow, and others.

Background Information[]

  • Most of the stories could be seen as non-World of Darkness stories involving Dracula from writers not as familiar with the setting. While authors who know the setting make constant references to it, examples include: Richard Lee Byers, Rick Hautala, Doug Murray, etc.
  • "The Blood of Othinn" references C. Dean Andersson's other short story, "Small Brown Bags of Blood," from Dark Destiny.
  • Ads in the book include: The Essential World of Darkness and the Masquerade of the Red Death Trilogy.
  • In the Biographies section, it is mentioned that Edward E. Kramer is working on his first novel for White Wolf: Killing Time.

Memorable Quotes[]

"I thought you were Boris Karloff," muttered Lugosi, obeying.
"I hear you're about to make another movie for Wood," said Dracula. "The Ghoul Goes West."
"Yes, yes, that's right-"
"No," said the vampire. "You won't." - Pg. 403

"Lunge for His throat, then, and taste His blood, if only a drop, if you can, and have your escape well planned as did I. And maybe you will learn not only the Secret of the Stake, but how to remove the spell.
"But be warned. Othinn has the power to know what you are thinking. That part about Santa Claus is certainly true. And there is something more...
"In my mind I now see another vision. An elder vampire scribbles words by candlelight. He writes, 'HE rides the Twelve Nightwinds of Yule, HIS gallowed Staff brings Storms, HIS spider-legged steed haunts Crossroads, Vampires curse all HIS Forms.'
"And I see a title to the book, Codex Othinnicus, and a date, 942 A.D.
"Look for the book! A copy must still exist somewhere. Maybe it will tell us how to lift the spell!"
And there Varina's notes end.
I hear a storm building outside. Isn't there a line in "The Night Before Christmas" about a clatter up on the roof?
At least I don't have a chimney.
It sounds like hail up there.
I'm signing off now.
Good luck to you all.
And to all a good night. - Pg. 574-575
