The Daedelus League is a loose alliance of like-minded novas who are capable of space (or at least extraterrestrial) travel.
The League began with Cyrus Katrak, a nova whose gravity-manipulation powers allow him to create wormholes through space. Though Katrak had no specific training for space exploration, his body could withstand direct exposure to the vacuum of space, and he began taking "outings" into the Solar System.
Eventually, Katrak connected with like-minded novas who also wanted to explore space without the interference of Project Utopia or government bureaucracies. The League stayed small until a New York Times editorial published on March 7, 2015, declared that novas had contributed nothing to space exploration. Katrak responded by calling a press conference and presenting the author of the editorial with soil samples from four of Jupiter's moons, prompting a retraction.
Since then, the Daedalus League has weathered an explosion of attention from novas and baselines alike. While they still primarily appeal to novas capable of unaided space travel, they have admitted a few members whose powers let them contribute to the League's mission in other ways. They also post extensively about their explorations on their OpNet site, which has grown quite a fan following. They have only two hard rules: they will not become a formal part of any other organization, and they will have absolutely nothing to do with any country's military.
Most of the scientific community love the Daedalus League, and some active collaborate with them, though a few worry that, as untrained amateurs, they might interfere with most formal scientific research. Project Utopia has been trying for years to get a hold over the League, and the Directive has considered inserting a mole — neither group likes the idea of novas gathering so far outside their reach.
