This article refers to the historical city of Constantinople. For the city in real life, see Constantinople. For its modern counterpart, see Istanbul.

Constantinople, also known variously as Istanbul and Kostantiniyye, was the capital of several empires during its lifetime, among them the Eastern Roman (or Byzantine) Empire, the Latin Empire, and the Ottoman Empire.[1] Officially renamed Istanbul and succeeded as the Turkish capital by Ankara during the Turkish War of Independence after the Ottoman Empire's defeat in World War I, the city remains in the modern day an economic powerhouse and is Europe's largest city.[1]

Constantinople is the setting for Dark Eras: After The Fall, a release for Demon: The Descent.

Demon: The Descent[]

Following a protracted siege by Mehmed II in 1453, Constantinople was captured by the Ottoman Empire. In the wake of the capture, the God-Machine and its forces fled the city for reasons unknown, its great power broken.[2] Without its suffocating presence, the city's Unchained population could flourish, free to entrench themselves in positions of power within the rebuilding city.[3]

This state of affairs continued unabated up until the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, under whose rulership the agents of the God-Machine began to creep back into the city.[4] By the time of Selim the Drunk's ascension in 1566, the Machine's grip had tightened once again[4].

Changeling: The Lost[]

Following the ascendancy of the Unchained in 1453, the dreams that the changeling population had once traveled so easily became tainted by some terrible quality; a strange being, the nature of which remains unknown, began to build itself a body out of mortal nightmares.[5]

Geist: The Sin-Eaters[]

In the wake of Mehmed's conquest, the Sin-Eaters of Constantinople were, in addition to the usual spate of ghosts spawned by war, plagued by a murderer who would take the eyes of her victims, leaving their shades blind as they traveled the Underworld.[5]

Hunter: The Vigil[]

The Vigil became a far more frantic thing after the God-Machine left the city in 1453. The Machine had kept a leash on the supernatural elements of the city, and without its presence, those beings ran wild.[5]

Mage: The Awakening[]

When Constantinople fell to the Ottomans, Mages of all stripes traveled to the city in search of artifacts they could appropriate. However, their time in the city was plagued by the Aegis Kai Doru.[5]

Mummy: The Curse[]

Constantinople has long been a city of Ammut the Devourer. Upon Mehmed's conquest, the cults of the Arisen told their masters of relics waiting in the great city's catacombs, but this was merely bait in a trap.[5]

Promethean: The Created[]

The Prometheans were drawn to the newly-conquered Kostantiniyye by visions from the Qashmallim. There, they were met by terrible storms, violence, and a hideous number of newly-hatched Pandorans. Those who survived, however, found a city of hope where they could lair in relative peace.[5]

Vampire: The Requiem[]

During the sacking of the city by Mehmed, the vampires of Constantinople, primarily servants of the Lancea et Sanctum, found themselves warring with those who accompanied Mehmed's armies. During this period, at least three potential Princes and other factions vied for power.[5]

Werewolf: The Forsaken[]

Prior to 1453, Constantinople was a city held by the Pure Tribes. When Mehmed's armies came, the Forsaken came with them, beginning a bloody conflict ending in victory for the Tribes of the Moon.[5]
