Compass Reach: Book One of the Secantis Sequence is a cancelled hardcover Science Fiction novel from the Borealis imprint.
Summary[]
From the White Wolf Fiction Catalog Spring, 1997:
Humanity's first contact with alien intelligence is a failure. The alien seti races of the Seven Reaches are incomprehensible. Without a common language, communication seems impossible until an unusual solution is suggested - send telepaths; direct mind-to-mind communication. A desperate government agrees to the plan. And it works, until the young telepaths actually meet the aliens. In the resulting diplomatic catastrophe, those few telepaths who survive vanish.
Ten years later, the aliens kidnap a telepath named Daniel. His only hope of rescue rests on an unlikely ally, Fargo, a freerider, a man with no legitimate identity.
But Frago has his own motives for going to Sol, to Earth, into the heart of power.
Fargo has touched an alien mind.
Book Two of the Secantis Sequence, Metal of Night, will appear in 1998, and the series will conclude with They Will Dream of Stars, They Will Live in Peace.

Background Information[]
Mark Tiedemann discusses the long time it took to get Compass Reach published on his blog: Digital Muse.
Two sequals to this book were also unpublished by White Wolf: Metal of Night and They Will Dream of Stars, They Will Live in Peace.
White Wolf had to make massive cuts to their Card and Fiction Departments in 1997 after the CCG Crash, downturn in the book/novel market and quickly expanding too much in 1996.
