Colleen Pendergrass is a thin-blood who, along with her husband, let go of their children to keep them safe.

Mortal Days[]

Epitaph: Beleagured Thin-Blood, Duskborn Den mother

Colleen Pendergrass (nèe Halstead) was born in 1976, the fourth of six children in a lower middle-class family, At eighteen, Colleen had met Mitch Pendergrass, a high school dropout who had started working for her father's HVAC company as a technician. Though four years older than her, Mitch and Colleen formulated a mutual attraction to one another, much to her father's frustration. After two years of dating, Mitch and Colleen were married and, using the money saved from working at her father's company, moved to Duluth and bought their first home.

Mitch found work at a towing company while Colleen set out to complete her RN training at a community college, yet it seemed that every attempt at progress was met with setback after setback. Colleen eventually dropped out of college after becoming pregnant with her first child, Kady. Their son, Luke, would be born shortly after.

Money, stress and wasted opportunity all began to take their toll on the young couple, and as frustrations gave way to resentment, Mitch and Colleen's relationship soon became perilously rocky.

One night, after venturing on a late-night call, Mitch disappeared. With Mitch missing, Colleen was suddenly filled with intense regret over the negativity with which she'd viewed her husband these past several months, and had promised herself to try and make it work, if only her spouse would return to her.

Kindred Nights[]

Two nights after vanishing without a trace, Mitch returned just as mysteriously and suddenly as he had gone. Pale, cold and dirty, Colleen ushered her husband back into their home, when suddenly, he lunged upon her, sinking his teeth into her throat and draining the blood from her body. When Colleen awoke, she found herself lying in her bed, with Mitch's lifeless corpse lying next to her.

Confused, and possessed of a consuming hunger, Colleen got out of bed and pulled the blankets serving as makeshift curtains from the bedroom windows. As daylight poured in from the outside, Mitch's corpse suddenly burst into flames - Colleen, herself, remained unburned. Acting on pure instinct, her emergency training kicked in and she covered the burning body with the heavy comforter, dousing the flames as best she could. Though Mitch would eventually recover from the brush with Final Death, the pair learned a valuable lesson - the nature of their curse was different for each of them.

Though initially Colleen attempted to nurture and care for her children, the Beast within her meant that her children would always be in danger so long as she and Mitch were part of their lives. After ten months of heartbreaking effort, Kady and Luke were remanded to the care of Colleen's older sister, Meghan, under the cover that Colleen and Mitch were entering a long-term care facility for drug abuse. The shame of this abandonment would become so severe that Colleen could never bear to bring herself to see her family again.

However, Mitch and Colleen soon found their own social group, as they formed a close bond with a band of local Kindred, all learning upon one another for survival. Though her thin-blood nature makes her the most vulnerable member of her coterie, it also makes her uniquely capable to handle daylight tasks. As a result, she has taken on the mantle of 'provider,' and spends most of her daytime solidarity hunting down the coterie's next bagged lunch.
