Los Angeles' Chinatown is home to one-fifth of all Chinese people in the United States.[1] It is the scene of several important events in the World of Darkness.
Kindred of the East[]
During the Great Leap Outward, the Quincunx used Chinatown as one of their staging areas to conquer L.A. The fighting reached a stalemate by the end of 1998, after heavy casualties on both sides, during which time Jeremy MacNeil persuaded Monkey Trip Wu to rebel against Mandarin Hao Wei Liang. The Anarchs recognized Wu as the Baron of Chinatown, whereas Wu planned to establish a new Quicksilver Court in California.[2] This betrayal, and series of other setbacks, lead Mandarin Hao to face the sun in October 1999, allowing Wu to take power outright. Ancestor Jiejie Li focused her attention on San Francisco, but her policy of co-opting Anarchs with the promise of a meritocratic New Promise Mandarinate stabilized the kuei-jin position and extended Wu's authority across L.A.[3]
Wu only help power for a few months,[4] and was replaced with Ming Xiao, who was once again pushed back to Chinatown by the unstable Kin-Jin political situation. She established a haven in the Temple of Golden Virtue and allied with the Tong, the Fu Syndicate, and with Camarilla Prince Sebastian LaCroix, but eventually betrayed the last over the affair of the Ankaran Sarcophagus. She was apparently destroyed in an terrorist attack not long after.[5]
In the Time of Judgment Timeline, the Quincunx eventually retreated from Los Angeles entirely in exchange for a cash payout.[6]
Mage: The Ascension[]
The Wu Lung established communities in Los Angeles and other Chinatowns in North America with the goal of eventually retaking the Chinese mainland.[7]

Background Information[]
- The Chinatown gate is designed after the Chinatown West Gate, although the real version is smaller; there's also a very different-looking East Gate. If we assume in-game version is intended to be the same structure as the real gate, then North would be towards the left side of the in-game map. The Chinese characters translate to "Cooperate to Achieve." The smaller sign hanging down reading "Chinatown" seen in-game was not on the original gate, but was added to it at some point. The sign was, however removed again sometime between 2011 and 2022.
- The Chinatown Theme (Track 6 of VTM: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Score ) plays throughout the area, with "Dark Asia Combat" (currently not on any licensed release) kicking in during combat.
