In the calendars of Creation, Calibration is a period of five intercalary days which belong to no time in the rest of the calendar. The weather is in disorder, and Luna hides her face.
Calibration is generally regarded as a time of ill omen: many tragic events from the beginning of the Usurpation, to the disappearance of the Scarlet Empress (between RY 763 and RY 764) have occurred during Calibration. Some cultures spend the period in fear, praying to the gods to protect them from misfortune and the coming winter. Others mark the period with a five-day festival of loud music, dancing, and masks to frighten away bad luck.
The period of Calibration is associated with the Eclipse Caste. The sorcerous spell for summoning a Demon of the Second Circle and only be cast during a new moon or during Calibration[1]. Summoning a Demon of the Third Circle can only be cast during Calibration[2].
