Bolivia is a landlocked country located in western-central South America. The sovereign state of Bolivia is a constitutionally unitary state, divided into nine departments. Bolivia is the the largest landlocked country in the Southern Hemisphere.
Overview[]
Before Spanish colonization, the Andean region of Bolivia was part of the Inca Empire, while the northern and eastern lowlands were inhabited by independent tribes. Spanish conquistadors arriving from Cusco and AsunciĆ³n took control of the region in the 16th century. During the Spanish colonial period Bolivia was administered by the Real Audiencia of Charcas. Spain built its empire in large part upon the silver that was extracted from Bolivia's mines. After the first call for independence in 1809, 16 years of war followed before the establishment of the Republic, named for SimĆ³n BolĆvar.
Vampire: The Masquerade[]
Bolivia was once a much larger nation, but near-constant attacks by other South American countries devoured much of its territory; now only a small portion of the original country remains. Just as with Venezuela, Bolivia remains under the watchful eye of Xavier de Cincao. The Sabbat has made several attempts to seize power in the country, with varying success, but the sect is always driven back by de Cincao and his numerous supernatural minions. The Sabbat's last successful attempt, in the late 1960s, ended when the sect's puppet ruler, General Rene Barrientos Ortuna, died in a helicopter crash. Rumors that Xavier de Cincao caused the helicopter to explode in midair have never been confirmed.
Bolivia serves a dark purpose for South America's vampires. Bolivia's land is situated at an extremely high altitude, and its native populace has developed certain bodily compensations. These include larger-than-normal hearts, expanded lungs - and additional red corpuscles in their blood. Bolivian vitae is renowned as a vampiric delicacy, and certain unscrupulous vampires (predominantly Ravnos and Setites) have taken to abducting native Bolivians; these unfortunates are then sold as vessels, for the pleasure of refined palates across the world.
Constant aggressions on the part of the Chilean and Paraguayan governments have taken their toll on the country. The Kindred have suffered far less damage than the kine as a result of these wars, but rumors of a powerful pack of shapeshifters moving into the area may very well change that.
In recent nights, a Gehenna cult known as Los Hijos de Si, or āThe Children of Siā has gained prominence in the country. Los Hijos de Si is a Kindred cult operating throughout Peru and Bolivia, with a history dating back nearly 1,500 years to its founding by Illari, a Moche priestess of the moon goddess āSi.ā Los Hijos have been active lately, quietly recruiting new members and expanding their influence. They rarely participate in the War of Gehenna or the senseless contests between the Camarilla and the Anarchs, their gaze firmly fixed on the moon above as they await the comforting darkness of salvation.
Wraith: the Oblivion[]
The Necropolis of Potosi, part of the Viceroyalty of Cuzco (Hierarchy client state), is a mine nearly as rich as the Veinous Stair.
