The Blush of Life is an ability used by vampires in both Vampire: The Requiem and Vampire: The Masquerade. Normally, a vampire looks the part of a corpse. They're pale and register no pulse. They exist at slightly below room temperature. Food and drink taste terrible, and immediately cause violent, bloody vomiting. They also cannot function sexually, or convincingly fake enjoying sex. However, by rousing a bit of the Blood, they can fake life temporarily, and in different cases engage in activities they once enjoyed as mortals.
Vampire: the Requiem[]
By spending a point of Vitae, Kindred may invoke the blush of life for a scene. This makes them functionally human. They become warm to the touch, with a full, hearty pulse. They produce natural bodily fluids. They function sexually in the way a human can, becoming physically aroused, erect, and lubricated. They can keep food and drink down, ejecting it later in the night. They’ll pass medical inspection while the blush remains active.
Vampire: The Masquerade[]
20th Anniversary Edition[]
A Kindred on the Path of Humanity can affect the Blush of Life at a cost of 8 blood points minus current amount of Humanity. Kindred on a Path of Enlightenment may not use the Blush at all.
Vampire: The Dark Ages 20th Anniversary Edition[]
For one blood point per Road dot under 8, a Cainite can summon the Blush of Life. Some from wicked Roads may not be able to practice this.
5th Edition[]
After making a Rouse Check, a Kindred can use Blush of Life to make themselves look more alive. The Blush of Life gets a lot of use in these nights, as it is required to use touchscreen technology without the assistance of a tool like an active stylus. The character can also consume mortal food and beverage and contain them in their bodies for up to an hour without vomiting. A Kindred's sexual potency and ability to enjoy (or convincingly fake) sex depends on their Humanity. At Humanity 9 or 10, Blush of Life is not even needed for any purpose except to pass off as human.
