    Simone Guevene

    September 13, 2020 by Saslen

Simone Guevene is a Darkling Gravewight active in the Grove’s West Court.

Despite the circles she runs in (among them Logan Acosta, one of her motley-mates), Guevene is entirely uninterested in the political state of the freehold. Not much changed for her when Acosta succeeded in providing the Directional Courts with more political control. More at home in the Linnwood Cemetery than anywhere else, much of the Gravewight’s time is spent communing with ghosts, honing her skills on the more dangerous creatures of the Hedge, and other work she does with the Hedge Wardens, of which she is a member.

Due to her profound distaste for being social, Guevene's role in the Wardens is as their Loremaster, cataloging their knowledge of the local Hedge. Fro…

    Rin Sprightly

    September 12, 2020 by Saslen

Rin Sprightly, formerly Caroline Price, is a thespian seeking to recreate the lost Courts of Comedy and Tragedy alongside her motley-mate Amasa Coleman.

Having grown up in the era of the nickelodeon and taken to Arcadia in the Roaring 20s, Sprightly had long admired actors, of movies and plays alike, and made a point of studying whatever films she found, seeking to understand the weft and weave of the stories those actors played out. It is, perhaps, unsurprising that, upon her capture, Sprightly took the form of a Fatemaker.

    Holter Steele

    September 12, 2020 by Saslen

Born John Reeve, Holter Steele is Soldier of the Grove’s Summer Court.

A very straightforward man, Steele is utterly devoted to the ideals of the Summer Court. This, alongside his great political acumen, has seen him placed as the advisor to the current sovereign, Rosalinda Romero, dealing with many of the minutiae of day-to-day rulership.

Due to lingering resentment prior to the Grove’s consolidation into one freehold, Steele gravely distrusts the Sun and Moon Courts, something that puts him at odds with unification faction members like Jack White and Sister Solaris.

    Logan Acosta

    September 7, 2020 by Saslen

Logan Acosta is an entomologist-turned-Shellback Beast who currently leads the Court of the East within the Grove.

Held captive for his Durance in the Chasms Under the World, Acosta was given a hand up by East courtier Michael Duan on his escape. Out of gratitude, he stayed with the Court, even through their political irrelevance — something he made certain to correct in the wake of the Flood of ’08 and the subsequent political upheaval.

Much of Acosta’s wealth comes from Azure Technologies (a computer hardware development company founded by Duan and fellow East courtier Gracie-Mae Chen) of which he is the CFO. A fair amount of his salary goes into charitable organizations, some of which are set up to benefit the freehold.

    Amasa Coleman

    September 6, 2020 by Saslen

Amasa Coleman, born Howard Fineman and famed as the founder of the Circle of Attican Attorneys, is a lawyer-turned-Antiquarian Fairest who seeks to recreate the lost Courts of Tragedy and Comedy alongside his motley-mate, Rin Sprightly.

Formerly a practicing lawyer, Amasa Coleman believes wholeheartedly in the ideals that make up the backbone of the American judicial system. As such, he has devoted himself to his Entitlement, which he created to ensure justice for those among the Lost that lack the means to legally protect themselves.

Of late, he has found a particular fascination with the Theater Courts present in Berlin before the wall fell. He and Sprightly have begun to plan their recreation.

    Old Hiran

    September 3, 2020 by Saslen

Old Hiran, born Henry Grange, is the leader of the Margravate of the Brim in the freehold of the Grove.

An Ogre who escaped alongside Jack White and Sister Solaris, Old Hiran once was their motley-mate. Unlike those two, he greatly mistrusted the entire notion of the Court system, a belief helped along by the persistent tension between Red Ferry and Shepherd’s Claim. As such, he drifted from the others.

By now, Hiran has risen to a position of great influence within the Margravate of the Brim; his recruitment among other Courtless in the area has rendered the entitlement far stronger than it would otherwise have been. As such, the Winter Court has been discreetly seeking out ways to remove the Ogre from the picture, before the Margravate has …

Ashei, born Ashley Grey, is a young changeling taken under the wing of Winter courtier Jack White. She has recently begun gravitating toward the Grove’s Moon Court.

A Lurker who met her motley-mate Helia Elis during her escape through the Hedge, Grey is far too enamored of her newfound freedom to join Elis in the Sun Court, which she views as stifling by nature. Instead, she has found herself drawn to the Moon Court.

    Helia Elis

    August 28, 2020 by Saslen

A young changeling taken under the wing of Jack White, Helia Elis has recently taken up with the Sun Court of the Grove.

A former captive of the House of Infinity, Helia Elis met her future motley-mate, Ashley Grey, during her escape through the Hedge. On reaching the mortal world again, the two stuck together, eventually being found by the Winter Court — specifically, Jack White, who, alongside Sister Solaris, took the two in.

Elis bears a strong sense of justice, a trait that has led her to the Grove’s Sun Court. Though she is currently at the bottom of the totem pole, the Draconic is an ambitious one. Even now, she plans an eventual ascension to the role of Sun Queen.

    Sister Solaris

    August 15, 2020 by Saslen

Sister Solaris, birth name Rose Dean, is a Telluric Fairest in the freehold of the Grove who has devoted her life to the ascension of the Solstice Court to the Seasonal Courts proper.

Motley-mate to Jack White, he and Solaris both joined the freehold of Red Ferry after escaping Arcadia. Upon its disestablishment and merger with Shepherd’s Claim into the Grove, she threw herself into maintaining the political wellbeing of the freehold, fearing that the True Fae would utilize any weakness to attack.

Having never felt a great affinity to any of the current Courts, Solaris nevertheless understands the importance of their proper function as a deterrent to the Others. As such, Solaris has attached herself to the Solstice Court, whose purpose she se…

William Frieze is Wizened Artist of Spring famed for the creation of the Arcadian School of Artistry and the forging of the Artist Contracts. He is motley-mates with the alchemist Flora Hadera.

Having spent his Durance alongside Hadera, Frieze was quick to enter into a Motley Pledge with her upon their escape. While she spent time pursuing knowledge and re-entering the teaching profession, Frieze threw himself into his art, using it as a form of therapy for what he experienced in Arcadia. Caden Pearson

    July 30, 2020 by Saslen

Caden Pearson, formerly the Vernal King of the freehold of the Red Ferry, is a political agitator seeking to split the freehold apart along Court lines.

The Vernal King, a gardener by trade before his capture, spent his durance as a decoration in the Hall of Seasons; his affinity to the wing dedicated to Spring shaped him into the Flowering changeling that he became. Upon his escape, he dropped into the Linwood Cemetery, from which he was quickly found by the Red Ferry’s Spring Court.

Pearson would quickly rise through the ranks, growing skilled in social manipulations. Despite the often cut-throat nature of the Courts, Pearson never lost sight of the importance of aiding his fellows — a trait that would see him become a much beloved Vernal …

    Jack White

    July 29, 2020 by Saslen

Motley-mate of Sister Solaris and adoptive father of Helia Elis and Ashley Grey, Jack White is one of the higher-ups in the Winter Court of the Grove.

Having spent much of his Durance in a mansion of mirrors that reflected any face but his own, Jack White barely remembered enough of his own life to make his escape through the Hedge. Upon his return to the mortal world, Jack vacillated between strict emotional detachment, which put him in good stead with Red Ferry’s (and eventually the Grove’s) Winter Court, and desperation for a true identity of his own, which he hid at all costs. White has since latched onto his motley and two newer changelings whom he took in as a family, relying both on that family and therapy to avoid further loss of Clar…

    The Grove

    July 25, 2020 by Saslen

Located in Cedar Rapids, IA, the City of Five Seasons, the freehold of the Grove, formerly the two rival freeholds of the Red Ferry and Shepherd’s Claim, is home to an unusually large number of changelings — 214 in total, though only 195 are permanent members.

Run by a mixture of four Court systems, the Grove is a bizarre freehold. The set of Courts in power switches by year, ending with each Spring Equinox, with the Winter Sovereign passing power not to Spring, but to the Directional Courts. At the end of the Directional Courts’ year, power passes to the Diurnal and Transitional, which jointly rule, after which it returns to Spring. Meanwhile, the edges of the freehold are under the control of the Margravate of the Brim, which believes, jus…

    Arcadian School of Artistry

    December 4, 2019 by Saslen

The Arcadian School of Artistry is an entitlement devoted to recording the beautiful or striking facets of changeling existence.

Created by the Spring courtier William Frieze, the Arcadian School is devoted to recording the beautiful or striking facets of the changeling condition. What this is will often vary depending on the artist — for example, an Autumn changeling may sculpt a nightmare statue the very sight of which can threaten Clarity; a Winter courtier may, by contrast, create a mournful painting that could bring one to tears in an instant. Members of this order often go into the Hedge or the Skein to find inspiration for their works.

Not a very organized group, the School mostly communicates at a local level, organizing events and sh…

    Contract of Contracts

    December 4, 2019 by Saslen

Forged by Amasa Coleman, the founder of the Circle of Attican Attorneys, the Contract of Contracts affects the pledges formed between changelings. This counts as affinity to all changelings.

Note: None of these clauses are capable of being used to target the one using them.

    •  Statute of Frauds:
Ordinarily, the aspects of any pledge must balance one another out. This clause permits the clients to bypass that requirement, if only slightly.
      Cost: 1 Glamour
      Dice Pool: Intelligence + Expression
Action: Extended (target 5+ successes, roll interval 10 minutes)
Catch: The Pledge is a contract in consideration of marriage.
      Roll Results
Dramatic Failure: The formative pledge lashes at the user of the Contract, bringing the sanction to bear against him.
      Failure:…

    Circle of Attican Attorneys

    December 4, 2019 by Saslen

The Circle of Attican Attorneys is an entitlement that seeks to protect freeholds in the legal realm.

Due to the constant conflict running through the lives of changelings, it is unsurprising that run-ins with the law are common, be it freehold law or mundane. In order that the Lost have fair, understanding legal counsel, former lawyer Amasa Coleman gathered together like-minded changelings to create an order dedicated to protecting the legal interests of the lost.

The Circle is divided into branches based on their line of work, among them contract lawyers (a path particularly revered among the Lost); courtroom prosecutors and defense attorneys (a path revered among the barristers themselves); legal advisors; and notaries for wills, marriage…
