These dangerous entities are the result of Set’s explorations of mummification, after he stole a bastardised version of the ritual for their creation from the Cult of Isis hundreds of centuries ago. Unfortunately for him, his version of the Spell of Life was flawed, and his candidates came back bonded to evil spirits known as Banes.

History

The ritual which Set worked to raise these creatures from the dead corrupted and distorted their bodies, so that they became truly monstrous. Like those of all mummies, the Bane Mummies’ spirits are undying. When their bodies are slain, their spirits journey to the Underworld, where they suffer unspeakable torments until being reborn. This cycle of agony has caused them to become psychopathically insane and twisted them to vicious banes. So, they abandoned their creator to serve the will of their true master, the Serpent Apophis. They are mutual enemies to the other Dynasties and each one serves his own agenda.

To the Followers of Set, these seven abominations before Ma’at are considered the most open sign of the deep divisions between Set’swill and Apophis design. The Setites regard it as their duty to contain the Bane Mummies whenever possible, to prevent them bringing unguided chaos and destruction to the world which Set wishes to rule. Not that this prevents them from attempting to control the Bane Mummies and use them at time for their own purposes, but then the Setites are certainly no less arrogant than the vampires of other Clans, and many possess a deep and abiding belief in their own power in the face of past evidence.
