Aumakua is a Hawai'ian term used by both the Kopa Loei and the Menehune.

Kopa Loei[]
In the common parlance of the Kopa Loei, an aumakua is a personal god, sometimes as avatar of a major deity, and often associated with a given family. Also, the Avatar of a True Mage, seen in visions as a totemic figure.
Menehune[]
Among the menehune, an aumakua is a Totem spirit.
