Anubis is the Pesedjet judge of the Underworld who weighs the hearts of the dead.
Overview[]
Anubis has the body of a dark-skinned man and the head of a jackal, though he rarely shows it these days. Some accuse him of having the soul of a jackal as well. In reality, he's urbane and sophisticated, with a slightly dark sense of humor. Originally he was the patron of embalmers and others who work with the dead, and met the departed themselves in the Hall of Two Truths to with his scales and the feather of Ma'at.
He can be found these days as an undertaker, a judge, a lawyer, a jeweler, or a bodyguards — it depends on what mood he's in. No one has ever died while he's chosen to protect them, but if he abandons them they don't last long. His Scions are just as dutiful, and just as fickle. They are intensely loyal to those they judge worthy, but that loyalty evaporates if they are disappointed or disillusioned. Fortunately, these Scions are usually excellent judges of character, so such reversals are rare; they will usually take the time to try to persuade their comrades before walking away.
