Animal Spirits (WTA)

Garou often interact with the spirits of animals, whether to learn Gifts from them or to appease them after hunting their kind for food. Animal spirits are similar to their physical counterparts, but they usually have a power they can teach to Garou — for example, a vole who can teach a Garou to burrow or a rabbit who can teach a Garou to leap.

Overview

The sheer variety of animal spirits prevents categorization, and the Garou believe many spirits have existed and disappeared along with their extinct animal counterparts. Garou believe that all Jaggling and Gaffling animal spirits are allied to their patron Totem Incarna, whom the lupus call Animal Fathers. The Animal Fathers, so say the lupus, regulate the earthly populations of animals. If they are slighted or insulted, they will prevent new births of their kin into the harsh world. This can be disastrous for wolves if the slighted Incarna is Caribou or Deer; depletion of these herds would cause starvation among the few wolves left in the world. The Animal Fathers are said to live in lodges somewhere in the Near Umbra.
