Andrei Srebrianski is the president of the Russian Confederation in the Nova Age.
Biography[]
Srebrianski began his career as a KGB agent, working alongside Alexi Zukhov and Petr Ilyanovich. He worked his way up to a position advising Boris Yeltsin, and helped him ride out the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Yeltsin put Srebrianski in charge of an anti-corruption task force, which Srebrianski entrusted to Ilyanovich. When the task force uncovered a conspiracy to depose Yeltsin, the president showed his gratitude by making Srebrianski his vice-president.[1]
When Yeltsin died suddenly in 1999, Srebrianski found himself ascending to the presidency in the middle of a global crisis. The Moscow Crash wiped out the country's economic overnight, and other officials were more interested in maneuvering themselves for advantage than trying to fix the problem.[2] Srebrianski's real grief over Yeltsin's death played poorly in the media, and he lost the support of the people. International organizations eventually threw up their hands and gave up trying to aid Russia's recovery, while Srebrianski and his cabinet worked themselves to exhaustion trying to right the ship of state. If Treasury Minister Vladimir Sierka hadn't erupted, Srebrianski might've worked himself into an early grave.[1]
As is, Srebrianski is very much a figurehead in his own government. He lets Sierka have the spotlight, and frequently holes up in his office complaining of illness or fatigue. His one major policy move has been the creation of the Directive to counter the ambitions of Project Utopia, with his old friend Ilyanovich in charge.[3]
