- A vision of the Savior appears before Aline Levesque. The apparition guides her to her first mentor.[1]
- William Albacastle is born around this time.[2]
- Shortly after New Year's celebrations, Nephandi attack the cabal of most of the founders of the Hollow Ones.[3] They are lured by Josepha de Espronceda. Bog Asphodel dies saving her, and she leaves the cabal in shame.[4]
- Shortly after New Year's celebrations, the American government sends US forces to Vietnam.[5]
- Dedicated to the owner's four daughters, the Four Queens Hotel and Casino opens in Las Vegas.[6]

- October 16: China conducts its first nuclear tests near the city of Lop Nor. The blast annihilates two Dragon Nests, sends waves of Tainted Chi through the dragon lines and kills numerous shen. The Kuei-jin believe that the test site was chosen as a part of a Shadow War between the Mandarins Tien Lu and Tashpulat Niyaz.[7]
