- The supposedly diablerised Ventrue elder "Hardestadt" convinces the major European Cainite clans to send representatives to a meeting in Vienna, where they agree to the formation of the Camarilla. Each also pledges to nominate a representative for the Inner Circle.[1] (It should be noted that this contradicts the timeline of events described in other books. See the Camarilla and Inner Circle articles for more information)
- The justicars of the Camarilla call the first national conclave. After much debate, the justicars are given broader authority to persecute violators of the Traditions. At the same time there is discussion of a "constabulary organization" to serve them, creating an position under justicars first called sheriff but eventually known as archon.[2]
- Thanks in part to the expressed sentiments of the Tremere Etrius and efforts of Assamite warriors to reinforce the idea that they make up all of Clan Assamite, the Camarilla declares a Blood Hunt on the Assamites, the first and last time a hunt is ever called on an entire clan.[3]
- Mortal Dominican Inquisitors Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger write and publish the Malleus Maleficarum, or "Hammer of Witches". It fans the flames of witch hunters across Europe, sparking the "Burning Times". Although Gabrielites distribute the document, many Daedaleans fall victim to the hunts, and by the time the witchfires die out in the 1700s, millions of magi, mortals and other night-folk have been killed.[4] The action is considered the declaration of war between the forces of faith, science and reason and the mystic traditions.[5]
