Events[]
- 1208-1244: Albigensian Crusade against the Cathars in France continues. The war results in the complete destruction of the cultures of Provençe and Aquitaine.[1][2]
- The Teutonic Knights seize Prussia from Poland, adding it to the Holy Roman Empire.[3]
- Pope Gregory IX establishes a permanent tribunal of ecclesiastical judges - the Inquisition, and the Society of Leopold along with it. While its members employ no new methods, their rapid recruitment, extensive travel and autonomy - they answered only to the Pope - made them much more effective.[4][5][6] With help from Gabrielites and Messianic Voices, witch-hunts flourish.[7][8][9]
- Aignen le Libraire, second-in-command of the Oculi Dei of the Shadow Inquisition, is tried by the new Inquisition as a heretic. He confessed to be an albigensian perfectus under torture.[10]
